60km past Vryheid there is a small town called Paulpietersburg. This is where Nzuzo Mthethwa grew up. From Grade 6 his dream had been to attend Westville Boys’ High School. A small boy with big dreams. In the Top 3 academically at the local primary school, Nzuzo studied hard but also trained hard for his selection to the KZN U12 and U13 Rugby sides, and was a natural choice for our WBHS Scholarship and Foundation Programmes in 2018. “Nzuzo is a natural leader..always punctual, neat, respectful and well liked by his peers,” said Director of
Marketing, Wian du Plessis. And as we come to the end of his Grade 8 year he can look back and reflect on a year of success.

He is on track to realize his dream of becoming a professional rugby player and to a career path in pharmaceuticals which will fulfil his wish to give back and support his family in Paulpietersburg. Take it back 27 years, and Gareth Cole was as fortunate to attend Westville Boys’ High School, matriculating in 1991. And he is paying it forward.

The Westville Boys’ High School Foundation appeal to old boys and businesses to support worthy pupils has seen the likes of Gareth support boys like Nzuzo. Through his company Powafix, Gareth has afforded Nzuzo the opportunies he had growing up.

“To quote one of South Africa’s great leaders, “Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another”. “Many of us grew up being educated at damn fine institutions like Westville Boys and I believe we have an obligation to part of the solution here in South Africa. There is no greater need in this country than education, it is the path to a better tomorrow for all South Africans”.

Thank You Gareth and Powafix for your support of Nzuzo, and the Westville Boys’ High School Foundation.
